Public Education

MetCom wants to ensure that emergency responders are able to get to you as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency. Properly educating the community is an important component in making sure that happens. MetCom not only has a Dispatcher certified in Fire Safety Education, but also has several Dispatchers who provide 9-1-1 Education to the community. Dispatchers are available to go into classrooms and teach younger students how to call 9-1-1, the importance of knowing their address and phone number and what information the Dispatch Center will be requesting when they call. Older students are taught about the information Dispatch will give them in order to help someone in need, the importance of not hanging up after calling 9-1-1 and some of the difficulties that arise with the increase in cell phone usage.

A Citizen's Academy for 9-1-1 will soon be offered. Attendees will learn how 9-1-1 works, how it is funded, get tours of 9-1-1 centers and be educated on the importance of 9-1-1.

In addition to classroom education, Dispatchers also attend events such as Greenwood Village Days, Parker Days, Centennial Medical Plaza's Trick or Treat for Health and other community events to educate the community on how 9-1-1 works and why it is so important.

Tours of our call center are welcomed. If you would like more information on any of the programs, please contact us.
